AAA & AACL AGM REPORT

On Sunday, August 24, 2003, The Australian Alpaca Association held its Annual General Meeting at South Sydney Junior Leagues Club, Kingsford, Sydney.

The meeting was opened at 11.00am by the President, Mr. Kerry Dwyer. Reports were received from the executive and a very interesting presentation was presented by McGregor's Marketing, on their proposals for enhancing the image of the AAA by taking a proactive stance in marketing through various means from Regional Breeders Directories through to Television commercials.

McGregor's have stated their goals are "to build a leading luxury brand to maintain and ensure high price of animals and products, in both Australian and International markets". Their aim is to have all promotional material developed by the end of the year, using the National slogan, "Uniquely Alpaca".

Voting on the three resolutions that we were all advised of in the mail forwarded with the notification of the meeting was then carried out. The first two were passed with very little discussion, however, the one regarding the certification of males after the birth of five progeny was defeated by a large majority vote after considerable discussion from the floor of the meeting.

Following lunch the AGM for the Australian Alpaca Co-operative Ltd, was held.

Maree Buck and Carl Dowd, both retiring from the board, were thanked for the excellent work they had contributed and Peter Cousins and Stepen Ridout were welcomed as new members of the board.

Mike Nichols gave another interesting report on the achievements and future directions of the Co-op.

The day was an interesting time spent in hearing of the future directions of our industry and the responsible attitude that is being shown by the Executive Committee in managing both the Association and the Co-op.

The offer of bus transport by the Southern Region to and from the meeting was greatly appreciated by our members.
